Digging the foundations

I came down to get my Weetabix at 7.30 this morning, glanced into the garden and couldn’t see any builders. Thought “Phew – they’re taking it easy and coming a bit later on a Friday”. Then I saw them taking delivery of the digger round at the front!!!

Much of the work  so far has been done by hand but this small digger arrived to excavate the foundations. The digger was hired over the weekend – which works out a more cost effective way of hiring – and we had to make sure the children stayed well away from it on the Sunday!


Because we are building the main structure with timber, the foundations are less deep than would need to be for brick construction. This uses less concrete and means fewer worries about the drains below.
